RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia secured a dramatic place in the semifinals of the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) 2026 after edging Thailand 3-2 in the quarterfinals on Friday, February 6, 2026, with singles player Richie Duta Richiardo emerged as one of the key contributors to the victory.
The quarterfinal tie took place at Qingdao Conson Arena, Chins, with Indonesia and Thailand trading points across five matches before Richie sealed the decisive win. The victory sent Indonesia through to the semifinals, scheduled for Saturday, February 7, where they will face an experienced Japanese squad.
Richie, who was trusted to play a crucial singles role, delivered convincingly by defeating Thailand’s Tanawat Yimjit in straight games, 21-5, 21-17. His win proved decisive in Indonesia’s narrow triumph.
“I feel relieved and proud to have helped bring the team into the semifinals. It also boosts my confidence. If I’m selected again against Japan, I will try to give my best. They have very experienced players, so it won’t be easy,” Richie said in comments released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) on Friday, February 6, as quoted by Antara.
Indonesia had taken an early lead through Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah, who beat Panitchapon Teeraratsakul 21-13, 22-20. However, Thailand responded when Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana fell to Peeratchai Sukphun/Pakkapon Teeraratsakul in three games, 21-14, 15-21, 17-21.

The tie swung back in Indonesia’s favor after Prahdiska Bagas Shujiwo claimed a hard-fought rubber-game victory over Purirat, 21-7, 17-21, 21-18. Thailand again leveled the score at 2-2 when Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin lost to Pharanyu/Worrapol 18-21, 19-21.
With the score locked at 2-2, Richie’s straight-game win in the final singles match ensured Indonesia’s 3-2 victory and booked their place in the semifinals.
Indonesia will now face Japan in the semifinals of BATC 2026, with Richie expressing confidence that the team is ready to compete against one of Asia’s most seasoned badminton nations. ***
