RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Southeast Asian tennis duo Janice Tjen and Alexandra Eala were eliminated in the semifinals of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open 2026 on Friday, February 6, 2026, after losing in straight sets to the tournament’s fourth seeds at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City.

Playing their first WTA tournament together, the Indonesian-Filipino pair were beaten 4-6, 2-6 by Tereza Mihalikova of Slovakia and Olivia Nicholls of Great Britain, according to WTA records. The match lasted one hour and 16 minutes, Antara reported.

Despite the straight-sets loss, Janice and Eala showed resilience in the opening set. Although they trailed by two games on the scoreboard, the pair recorded more aces, won more return points, and held serve effectively against the Slovak–British combination.

The momentum shifted in the second set as Mihalikova and Nicholls took control with dominant serving. They successfully saved one break point and converted one of three break opportunities to close out the match and secure a place in the final.

The result ended Janice and Eala’s run in the last four of the WTA 500 event, marking the conclusion of an impressive debut campaign as a doubles partnership. 

Nicknamed “SEAster,” the duo opened their tournament by defeating Leylah Fernandez and Kristina Mladenovic, before eliminating second seeds Zhang Shuai and Cristina Bucsa in the quarterfinals.

Both players also competed in the singles draw. Janice exited in the second round after losing to fifth seed Liudmila Samsonova, while Eala advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to second seed Ekaterina Alexandrova. Eala is the reigning women’s singles gold medalist at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

Following the Abu Dhabi Open, Janice is scheduled to travel to Doha to compete in the Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2026, a WTA 1000 event. The 23-year-old Jakarta-born player is set to face Romanian Sorana Cirstea in the first round. ***
