RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Japan’s victory over the Indonesian women’s team was finalized after Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti lost their critical fourth match at the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) on Thursday, February 5, 2026. 

Taking place at the Qingdao Conson Gymnasium in China, the match determined that Indonesia would move forward in the tournament as the runner-up of Group X. While the duo fought to keep Indonesia’s hopes alive, the overall team score reflects a challenging encounter against a strong Japanese lineup as both teams now advance to the quarterfinal phase.

Quoting Antara, Tiwi/Fadia conceded to the Japanese pair Kie Nakanishi/Miyu Takahashi in straight games, 20-22, 16-21. This result left Indonesia trailing 1-3 against Japan, meaning the final match between Ni Kadek Dhinda Ayu Pratiwi and Yuzono Watanabe would no longer affect the overall outcome.

With this loss, Indonesia is confirmed to advance to the quarterfinals as the runners-up of Group X, while Japan secures the position of group winners. Tiwi/Fadia actually started the first game quite well by exploiting gaps in their opponents' defense to take an early 7-3 lead.

The Indonesian pair managed to maintain a slim advantage until the interval, leading with a score of 11-10. However, persistent pressure from Nakanishi/Takahashi began to trouble Tiwi/Fadia after the break.

A lapse in focus during the crucial closing stages allowed the Japanese pair to equalize at 20-20 before they snatched two consecutive points to take the first game 22-20. As the second game began, the dominance of Nakanishi/Takahashi became increasingly apparent.

Tiwi/Fadia fell behind quickly after losing several points in a row, heading into the interval with a significant deficit of 2-11. After the break, they attempted to mount a comeback by playing more tactically and applying pressure through four consecutive points.

Although they managed to close the gap and provide resistance until the final phase of the game, the consistency of the Japanese pair remained difficult to break. Nakanishi/Takahashi eventually secured the second game 21-16, effectively ending Tiwi/Fadia’s resistance.

This defeat meant Indonesia failed to turn the tide and had to acknowledge Japan's superiority in the BATC 2026 Group X standings. Previously, Indonesia had managed to equalize through a victory by Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum over Arisa Igarashi/Chiharu Shida, 21-12, 18-21, 23-21.

This equalizing point came after the first women's singles player, Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan, lost to Riko Gunji 14-21, 16-21. However, Indonesia fell behind 1-2 again after second singles player Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari lost to Hina Akechi in straight games, 2-21 and 9-21, shortly before Tiwi/Fadia were also unable to level the score. ***
