RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian-Filipino pair Janice Tjen and Alexandra Eala marked their first partnership with a breakthrough performance on Tuesday night, February 3, 2026, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open 2026 after edging past Leylah Fernandez and Kristina Mladenovic in a closely contested super tie-break.

Playing at the International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi, Janice and Eala edged past Canadian-French pair of Leylah Fernandez and Kristina Mladenovic in a super tie-break, posting a 7-5, 3-6, 10-6 victory, according to WTA records.

“This is the first time we have played together,” Janice said after the first-round doubles match at the WTA 500 event, as quoted by Antara.

The closely contested match lasted one hour and 33 minutes. Backed by strong serving, Janice and Eala claimed the opening set by converting two of their four break-point opportunities. Although the scoreboard showed a wider margin in the second set, the Indonesian Filipino pair managed to contain Fernandez and Mladenovic, who were more effective in return games.

Janice and Eala recorded a first-serve success rate of 86.7 percent in the second set and continued their dominance on serve into the super tie-break. They capitalized on three double faults by Fernandez and Mladenovic to seal the win and secure a place in the quarterfinals of the Abu Dhabi Open.

Next, Janice and Eala will face the winner of the first-round match between Ukrainian sisters Nadiia Kichenok and Lyudmyla Kichenok and second seeds Zhang Shuai and Cristina Bucsa.

Earlier, Janice, who also competed in the singles draw, was eliminated in the second round after losing to fifth seed Liudmila Samsonova. Janice was unable to match the world No. 18’s dominance and fell 2-6, 2-6 in one hour and 12 minutes. ***
