RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia's Ministry of Youth and Sports handed over gym and sports science equipment to the All-Indonesia Badminton Association (PBSI) in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. PBSI praised the handover, seeing it as part of the transformation in developing the country's athletes towards the next Summer Olympics.
The assistance, valued at more than Rp9 billion (around US$535,000), comprises fitness equipment, technology-based vests, cardiology devices, and other tools. As some of them enable data-based athlete monitoring, the association could involve sports science for Indonesian badminton development.
In his remarks, the ministry’s secretary, Gunawan Suswantoro, expressed hope that the equipment would help the Indonesian badminton team in achieving success at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States. Moreover, badminton is one of the government-designated priority sports.
"We hope the gym equipment we provide to PBSI can be used optimally by the athletes and officials. Hopefully, everyone stays healthy, and we can truly make it to the 2028 Olympics.

Chairman of PBSI, Fadil Imran, appreciated the assistance, viewing them as part of the athlete development transformation. The association said it is a strategic step to strengthen a structured, measurable, and sustainable coaching system.
"This assistance is not merely about procuring equipment, but is part of a transformation of the performance development system toward an approach that is increasingly scientific, measurable, and oriented toward long-term athlete development," Fadil said.
Badminton is one of the priority sports designated by the Indonesian government, which has even set a target for the Indonesian team to win gold at the 2028 Olympics. To date, Indonesia is the second-most successful nation in Olympic badminton history, with 22 medals in total.
Badminton matches at the 2028 Summer Olympics would be held on July 15–24, 2028, according to the new scheduling. All matches would be held at the Galen Center, a multipurpose indoor arena in Los Angeles.
