RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis star Janice Tjen will compete at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open from 31 January to 7 February 2026, after receiving a wildcard entry, giving her the chance to test herself against some of the world’s top WTA players.

Janice, currently ranked 59th in the world, made her Grand Slam main draw debut at the Australian Open, where she defeated 22nd seed Leylah Fernandez in straight sets before falling to former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova in the second round.

“I am very excited to come to Abu Dhabi and grateful for the opportunity to compete at a high-level tournament like this," Janice said on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

"The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open is an event I have always followed, and it means a lot to test myself against some of the best players in the world. I’m looking forward to the challenge and feeling the atmosphere in front of the fans,” she added.

Alongside Janice, organizers have awarded a wildcard to Zeyneb Sonmez, a rising star from Turkiye, ranked No. 112 in the world, who made headlines by defeating 11th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the first round of the Australian Open.

“Wildcards are an important part of what makes the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open special,” said tournament director Nigel Gupta on the official website, Wednesday.

He added that wildcards allow the organizers to spotlight exciting players from around the world while continuing to build a world-class player field.

"Janice and Zeyneb both bring strong fan bases and real competitive quality, complementing a roster that already includes established champions and some of the most promising young players on the WTA Tour,” he explained.

The announcement adds to the early confirmed field for the fourth edition of the tournament. Defending champion Belinda Bencic, currently ranked No. 10, will return to Abu Dhabi to pursue her third Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open title, having won in 2023 and 2025.

The Olympic gold medalist remains unbeaten at the event and comes off a remarkable comeback season on the WTA Tour. Rising Filipino talent Alexandra Eala has also been confirmed to participate, adding to the growing list of top contenders. ***
