RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - The mystery over Persib Bandung’s latest signing has finally been answered. The Maung Bandung side officially introduced former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player Layvin Kurzawa as their new recruit.

The introduction of the French national team player was carried out through a videotron display at Gelora Bandung Lautan Api (GBLA) Stadium on Sunday, January 25, 2026. Kurzawa then walked onto the pitch to greet Persib supporters.

“Hello Bobotoh (Persib fans), sampurasun (hallo), hatur nuhun (thank you),” he said briefly, accompanied by Persib team manager Umuh Muchtar. The crowd, who had just watched Persib secure a victory over PSBS Biak, erupted in cheers.

Kurzawa fills the remaining foreign-player slot previously left vacant by William Marcilio. His arrival comes amid a congested Indonesian league schedule and Persib’s challenges at the Asian level.

Born in Fréjus on September 4, 1992, Kurzawa is known as a versatile player. Left-back is his primary position, but he is also comfortable playing as a left winger or center-back. This flexibility provides head coach Bojan Hodak and his staff with multiple tactical options, particularly for squad rotation, formation changes, or specific in-game needs.

In terms of playing style, Kurzawa possesses several attributes relevant to Persib’s current needs, including accurate crossing from the left flank, tidy sweeping ability, and the courage to push forward in attack.

Deputy CEO of PT Persib Bandung Bermartabat (PBB), Adhitia Putra Herawan, said Kurzawa’s signing was a direct recommendation from the coaching staff. “The objective is to add squad depth in his usual positions, namely left-back, left winger, and center-back,” he said.

According to Adhitia, Kurzawa has been given a contract until the end of the season, with an option for extension based on performance evaluation and team needs. Beyond tactical requirements, Kurzawa’s track record was also a key consideration.

He previously played for AS Monaco, PSG, Fulham, and Boavista, and represented the French national team from 2014 to 2019. That extensive experience at Europe’s highest level is expected to have a direct impact both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Adhitia added that Persib are currently entering a crucial phase in the round of 16 of the AFC Champions League Two. “This competition demands squad depth, composure in decision-making, and players who are accustomed to big matches,” he said.
