RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian para athlete Alvin Nomleni from South Timor Tengah, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), expressed his pride after clinching gold at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games in Thailand, which run from January 20-26, 2026, and dedicated it to his country.

The young runner secured his latest victory in the Men’s 800m T20 final, clocking an unbeatable time of 2 minutes 00.352 seconds. This achievement adds to his earlier triumph in the Men’s 400m T20, making it a double gold haul for the athlete from Timor Island.

Reflecting on his race at the 80th Birthday Anniversary Stadium in Nakhon Ratchasima on Saturday night, January 24, Alvin recalled his mindset before the start. "During the final, I simply surrendered everything. At the start line, I told myself, ‘Let God decide.’ That was all," he said.

Despite facing seasoned competitors with Paralympic experience, Alvin admitted he had not expected to win. "I never thought I had to be number one. But God had other plans. I am very proud to dedicate this gold medal to Indonesia," he added.

Alvin credited his success to the prayers of his parents and the encouragement of close friends, which gave him confidence and motivation. He emphasized that overcoming personal doubts was just as important as defeating rivals on the track.

"My friends kept telling me, ‘Bang Alvin, you can do it!’ Even when I doubted myself, I realized the real challenge was not just the opponents, but whether I could conquer my own ego," he explained.

With tears in his eyes, Alvin extended gratitude to his community back home. "To my friends in my home town, thank you for your prayers and support, especially to my mother and father," he said. ***
