RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s wheelchair basketball athletes were defeated 30-60 by the Thailand national team during their second group stage game at Hall 1, Terminal 21 Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Following a 30-63 blowout against the Philippines, this second consecutive loss puts pressure on the team’s standing in the four-nation tournament. The squad surrendered the points to the Thai dominance in both short and long-range shooting, falling short after a hard-fought battle where reliance on a single primary scorer made the offense easy for the opponents to read.

"We gave the opponent too much space to shoot from the paint area," stated the head coach of the Indonesian national wheelchair basketball team, Salim Nurjadin, as quoted by Antara. Despite the setback, star player I Komang Suparta expressed that the team is focused on immediate improvements for their upcoming fixtures.

"We remain optimistic about the next match, so that we can face a more manageable opponent," said the player wearing jersey number 14. During the clash against the hosts, Indonesia initially kept the score close through the first five minutes of the opening quarter.

However, Thailand began to dominate toward the end of the period, leaving Indonesia trailing 6-12. In the following quarter, I Komang Suparta managed to respond to the opponent's momentum with a shot from the paint area to bring the score to 8-14.

The captain continued to rack up points, nearly closing the gap to 12-14 before the hosts pulled away again. Thailand’s superior accuracy in both short and long-range shooting eventually widened the lead to 23-14.

After halftime, the dominance of Adisak Kaoboo continued as Indonesia struggled to defend against outside scoring. Three-point shots remained difficult for Komang and his teammates to anticipate, resulting in a 34-18 deficit with three minutes left in the third quarter.

By the final quarter, the "Merah Putih" squad became heavily dependent on their Balinese captain to facilitate the offense. This reliance made their attack predictable, allowing Thailand to frequently execute fastbreaks against the Indonesian defense.

After battling for the full 4x10 minutes, Salim Nurjadin's squad ultimately conceded with a final score of 30-60. The men's 5x5 wheelchair basketball event at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games features four nations: Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia.

All participants compete in a round-robin format to determine their seeding for the semifinal stage. The Garuda squad is scheduled to play their third preliminary match against Malaysia on Friday, January 23, 2026. ***
