Faathir/Devin Secure Main Draw Spot at Indonesia Masters 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian men’s doubles pair Ali Faathir Rayhan/Devin Artha Wahyudi staged a spirited comeback to book their place in the main draw of the Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2026, defeating higher-ranked French duo Mael Cattoen/Lucas Renoir 20-22, 21-16, 21-14 at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, on Tuesday, January 20.

Ranked 65th in the world, Faathir/Devin faced a stern challenge against Cattoen/Renoir, who sit at No. 47. Yet the Indonesian duo displayed resilience and tactical adaptability to overturn early setbacks and claim victory in three games.

The opening game saw Faathir/Devin struggle to settle, trailing 0-3 as the French pair pressed aggressively. They clawed back to 18-18, but unforced errors at crucial points proved costly, handing Cattoen/Renoir the set 22-20.

Determined to respond, the Indonesians shifted gears in the second game. Playing with greater patience and taking the initiative in attack, they built a 7-4 lead and maintained control to close out 21-16.

With momentum on their side, Faathir/Devin entered the deciding game brimming with confidence. Their mix of sharp attacks and steady rally play left the French duo struggling to keep pace. The Indonesians sealed the match with a 21-14 finish.

Devin credited composure as the key to their turnaround. “The first set was rough; we made mistakes and faced constant pressure. But in the second and third sets, we tried to stay calm and patient. Until the score reaches 21, it’s not over, so we kept trying everything,” he said, as quoted on the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) official website.

Faathir added that playing more expressively helped ease nerves. “It boosted confidence and released the tension from the first set,” he said.

Their energy was amplified by the Istora crowd, whose cheers and atmosphere spurred them on. Devin admitted that having his family in attendance gave him extra motivation. “It boosts my confidence and motivation, especially with my parents here. I want to prove myself.”

With this victory, Faathir/Devin advance to the main draw of the BWF World Tour Super 500 event, where they will face India’s Arjun M.R./Dhruv Kapila in their bid to extend their campaign on home soil. ***
