KBRN, Bangkok: Indonesia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, expressed his appreciation for the success of the Indonesian men’s badminton team, who defeated Malaysia to secure the gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, Wednesday (12/10/2025).

“An outstanding performance from our men’s team in today’s final against Malaysia. They played with confidence, high spirit, and showed dominance without giving the opponents any room,” Erick said in an official statement on Wednesday in Jakarta.

Indonesia claimed a convincing 3-0 victory. In the opening match, Alwi Farhan defeated Leong Jun Hao 21-12, 21-19. The win was followed by the men’s doubles pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Muhammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, who delivered a strong performance against Malaysia’s top pair, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, winning in straight games 21-12, 21-12.

The gold medal was secured by Muhammad Zaki Ubaidillah after beating Justin Hoh 21-14, 21-12 at Thammasat University Rangsit. Head Coach of Indonesia’s Men's Singles, Indra Wijaya, expressed his appreciation for the hard work of the entire squad.

“We are all grateful that the men’s team succeeded in winning gold. Appreciation goes to all the players who fought throughout this SEA Games. We all fight for one name: Indonesia,” Indra stated.

He added that the victory was even more meaningful because it was achieved by a squad largely composed of young players. “In team events, things can always be different. Sabar and Reza looked more prepared and confident, perhaps also driven by Alwi’s win in the opening match. This medal is for Indonesia, and for the younger generation to boost their confidence,” he said.

Team captain Sabar Karyaman Gutama said he was proud to once again deliver a SEA Games gold after achieving the same result at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games. “Winning the SEA Games gold is a dream for me. Our team was determined to achieve it, and we made it happen,” Sabar said.
