KBRN, Jakarta: A blend of seasoned players and fresh talent is giving Indonesia’s women’s volleyball team renewed energy as they prepare for their opening match against Malaysia at the 2025 SEA Games in Bangkok on Wednesday.

Head coach Marcos Sugiyama emphasized that the squad is in peak condition, both physically and mentally, following an extended preparation period that fostered a focused and positive training atmosphere. He noted that this environment has strengthened player interactions and boosted confidence.

“We are very focused and happy. Our environment is peaceful and joyful, reflecting the confidence that has grown throughout training,” Marcos said in Bangkok, as quoted by Antara on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

The inclusion of several new athletes has added vibrancy to the team’s composition. The mix of experienced players and newcomers has created fresh dynamics, intensifying daily practice sessions. “Integrating new athletes brings extra energy. We feel a fresher, more spirited atmosphere every day,” he added.

Still, Marcos acknowledged the challenges ahead, stressing that Indonesia must remain consistent and approach the tournament step by step to achieve its goals. “The competition will not be easy. We will build our path day by day, one country at a time, until we reach the target we have set together,” he said.

He underlined the importance of securing victory in the opening match to maintain momentum throughout the competition. A positive result, he explained, would ease pressure and further enhance player confidence. “Our goal is to win. That’s why the opening match is so important. If we win, anxiety decreases and performance can improve day by day,” Marcos noted.

All 14 athletes are ready to perform, with two setters set to rotate during the first two matches to establish rhythm. “We have 14 athletes capable of starting. For the first two games, we will rotate two setters to build the best rhythm,” he explained.

For the opening clash against Malaysia, Marcos confirmed the starting lineup: Mediol Stiovanny Yoku, Pascalina Mahuze, Chelsa Berliana Nurtomo, Rara, Megawati Hangestri, Yolana Bheta Pangestika, and Indah Guretno. ***
