KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesia's men's single shuttler Jonatan Christie revealed that his preparations for the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 have reached about 70 percent. His recovery and adjustments after the Australian Open have gone quite well.
“Overall, it’s okay, much better,” Jonatan said, as quoted on Djarum Official website on Friday, December 5, 2025. His focus is now fully directed toward the season-ending tournament.
The main evaluation from his previous tournament centered more on non-technical aspects. “That’s what we just figured out,” said the 28-year-old shuttler.
This is closely tied to his decision to leave the national training camp, a move that has brought him into a new phase of his career. He is wary of the diverse styles and compositions of opponents in this event. “Some are young, some are more experienced,” he noted.
He pointed out that 35-year-old Chou Tien Chen remains highly competitive, with no decline in his performance. This year’s competition is also marked by the presence of rising talents. Kunlavut Vitidsarn and Christo Popov are among the serious threats.
Jonatan believes every player has a strong chance of winning. “There’s always a chance for me,” he said. Still, he doesn’t dwell too much on his own chances of lifting the trophy. His main priority is to deliver his best performance.
“I will give my best,” Jonatan affirmed, emphasizing that both his mental and physical preparations continue to be sharpened.
With the varied lineup of opponents, the tournament presents unique challenges. Jonatan is ready to face all possible scenarios. His confidence remains high even though his preparations are not yet at 100 percent. His ultimate target is to perform at his maximum in this prestigious event. (Gusti Panji/Sri Wahyuni)
