KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesian women’s tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi has confirmed she will partner Janice Tjen in the women’s doubles at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. The pair is also scheduled to compete in other events as Indonesia aims to maintain its gold-medal tradition.
Janice will make her SEA Games debut in the women’s doubles while also competing in the singles and team events. The final composition of the women’s singles squad is still awaiting Priska Madelyn Nugroho’s decision on which events she will enter.
Aldila said she is most likely to compete in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles, while the coach and federation are still finalizing other lineups. She emphasized the importance of communication with Priska and other players to ensure the distribution of events meets the team’s needs.
“We have Priska for singles, then we will see if she wants to play doubles or mixed doubles, it still depends on her,” Aldila said in Jakarta on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
Aldila and Janice recently completed a two-week training camp in Bali to prepare for the SEA Games and the 2026 season. They will now join the Indonesian national tennis team for further training in Jakarta.
The three-time SEA Games mixed doubles champion with Christopher Rungkat is aiming to repeat her gold medal success. However, she acknowledged that competition will be tougher this year, with host nation Thailand expected to field its strongest players.
“Obviously, I want to extend my record, but Thailand will field a full team, and they will definitely give their best. As hosts, they will also have massive public support, which will make the atmosphere even more challenging,” Aldila said.
She stressed that she and the team are focusing on controllable factors, including physical and mental preparation, and will approach each match step by step without being burdened by past results.
Currently, Aldila said, there are no official medal targets from the Ministry of Youth and Sports for tennis. However, she has set a personal goal of winning three gold medals in the women’s team, women’s singles, and mixed doubles.
At the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, the Indonesian tennis team emerged as overall champions, securing four gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. The gold medals came from the women’s team, women’s singles, men’s singles, and mixed doubles.
Aldila emphasized that the victory in Cambodia is not a source of pressure for the current squad. “For me personally, it is not a burden, but rather a motivation to aim for the same or better results,” she said.
The tennis competition at the 2025 SEA Games is scheduled for December 10–19 at the National Tennis Development Center in Muang Thong Thani, Thailand, giving Indonesia sufficient time to refine its strategy and player lineup. ***
