Indonesia Shines in Kalimantan Traditional Attire at ISG 2025 Opening

KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesia’s delegation captivated audiences during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a striking cultural parade that highlighted the nation’s rich heritage. The Red and White contingent donned traditional attire from Kalimantan, radiating the beauty of the archipelago’s diverse cultures.

The athletes wore Dayak-inspired garments symbolizing Indonesia’s courage and resilience. The intricate motifs reflected noble values and the spirit of regional unity.

Flairene Candrea Wonomiharjo was honored as the flag bearer for the Indonesian delegation. “Carrying the national flag is always an extraordinary privilege,” she said in a statement received by RRI on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

This was not Flairene’s first time representing Indonesia in such a role. The swimmer previously served as flag bearer at the SEA Games in Cambodia.

She expressed hope that Indonesia’s presence at ISG would serve as a symbol of solidarity among participating nations. “It’s about the spirit of unity among Islamic countries,” she affirmed.

Chef de Mission Endri Erawan also took part in the parade, wearing traditional attire from Kutai Kartanegara. The outfit paid tribute to one of the oldest Islamic kingdoms in the Archipelago.

“My family hails from Kutai Kartanegara,” Endri shared. He expressed pride in wearing the ceremonial dress before thousands of spectators in the stadium.

The gold and black hues of the outfit represented the grandeur and dignity of Kutai culture, while the Dayak-inspired ornaments symbolized inner strength and national pride.

Endri also conveyed a deeper message behind the use of traditional attire. “Achievement isn’t just about medals; it’s about honoring the nation,” he said.

Indonesia has fielded 39 athletes competing in seven sports disciplines at ISG 2025. They will represent the country across various Islamic sporting events.
