KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesian tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi is teaming up with compatriot Janice Tjen for the WTA 125 Suzhou Doubles event in China.

The decision came unexpectedly after Aldila and her previous partner, Irina Khromacheva of Russia, were eliminated in the first round of the WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing.

“After the loss, we checked the schedule and managed to arrange to play together here,” Aldila said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, September 29, 2025, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Aldila and Khromacheva were defeated by the second seeds Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, with a score of 3–6, 2–6.

Following the match, Aldila and Janice traveled from Beijing to Suzhou by high-speed train, covering approximately 1,140 kilometers in four to five hours.

The two previously partnered at the ITF W35 Arcadia tournament in California earlier this year, where they finished as runners-up. That event served as a warm-up for Aldila ahead of major tournaments, such as the Indian Wells and Miami Open.

The ITF W35 Arcadia tournament marked Aldila’s return to competition in 2025 after suffering sudden deafness at the end of last year, which forced her to miss early-season events, including the Australian Open Grand Slam.

“In terms of chemistry, it should be good because we already know each other and understand each other's game,” said Aldila.

Meanwhile, Janice Tjen has successfully advanced to the main draw of the WTA 125 Suzhou singles after winning two qualifying matches in straight sets. In the first round, she is scheduled to face American qualifier Varvara Lepchenko.

After her singles match, Janice will join Aldila in the doubles draw, where the Indonesian pair, seeded fourth, will face Li Yu-yun and Elena Pridankina.

This doubles match is an opportunity for Indonesia to showcase the quality of its female tennis players in international competition. Both are expected to deliver surprises and their best performance at the Suzhou tournament. ***
