KBRN, Jakarta: After a grueling two-hour and 30-minute match, Indonesian women's tennis player Janice Tjen fell in the first round of the main draw at the WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
After winning the first set in a tie-break, Janice was unable to hold off Aliaksandra Sasnovich and was forced to concede the match in three sets: 7-6(4), 5-7, 1-6. While Janice hit eight aces to her opponent's zero, Sasnovich, ranked 130th in the world, delivered a stellar performance with a better serve and fewer double faults.
As reported by antaranews.com, Sasnovich also had a higher break point conversion rate at 83.3% compared to Janice's 66.7%.
The China Open marks Janice's second WTA event, following her debut last week at a WTA 250 tournament in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where she was the runner-up. Her performance there caused her ranking to surge to World No. 103.
After winning the first round of the China Open qualifiers on Monday, September 22, 2025, Janice's ranking climbed one spot to World No. 102. She then secured a straight-set victory to advance to the main draw of her first-ever WTA 1000 event.
Prior to Sao Paulo, Janice arrived with a World No. 130 ranking after her maiden Grand Slam appearance on the American hardcourts.
According to WTA records, before arriving in New York for the US Open qualifiers, Janice had won 45 of her last 50 professional matches. During that period, she reached nine ITF finals, won six titles, and climbed over 200 ranking spots—from World No. 371 to World No. 149.
In the doubles sector of the China Open, Aldila Sutjiadi is also competing alongside her compatriot, Irina Khromacheva, who has often been on the opposite side of the net from her. Aldila and Khromacheva face a tough challenge in their first match in Beijing.
They are set to go up against the second-seeded team of Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani in the first round of the China Open, with the match scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025, at 10 a.m. local time. ***
