KBRN, Jakarta: Milatul Khaqimah is set to make history as Indonesia’s sole representative at the 2025 Mountain Bike World Championships in Valais, Switzerland, held from August 20 to September 14. The 21-year-old downhill specialist will debut in the elite women’s category, facing off against some of the sport’s top international riders.

Known affectionately as Mila, she shared her excitement on social media Thursday, writing, “My first World Championship.” Her participation marks a significant milestone not only in her career but also for Indonesia’s presence in global downhill racing.

Currently signed with UK-based professional team Axess Intense Factory Racing, Mila trains alongside prominent names such as Joe Breeden, Lousse-Anna Ferguson, Oscar Griffiths (UK), Mille Johnset (Norway), and Fernando Juan Munoz (Colombia). Despite downhill mountain biking not being part of the Olympic program, Mila remains committed to elevating the sport’s profile in Indonesia.

“I want to keep learning and growing for Indonesia. Even though downhill isn’t in the Olympics, events like the SEA Games, Asian Games, World Cup, and World Championship are just as important. I hope the government and federation will support non-Olympic disciplines too,” she said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Over the past two years, Mila has emerged as one of Asia’s most dominant downhill riders. She clinched gold in the Women’s Elite Downhill at the 2024 Asian Championships in Malaysia, defended her title in 2025 in China, and added another gold at the 2024 National Sports Week (PON).

Her consistent performance has propelled her to 24th in the world rankings with 420 points and five race victories, positioning her as one of the sport’s most promising young talents.

Mila recently gained firsthand experience on the world stage during her debut at the UCI MTB World Series 2025 in France, held August 28–31. She clocked 6 minutes 01.246 seconds in her first race, improving to 5 minutes 48.734 seconds in the next, an encouraging sign as she heads into the World Championships. ***
