KBRN, Surabaya: Persebaya Surabaya forward Malik Risaldi has been confirmed to join the ASEAN All-Stars squad for an exhibition match against Manchester United, set to take place at Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Wednesday evening, May 28, 2025.

The confirmation was provided by Persebaya Media Officer Jonathan Yohvinno Thamrin, who stated that the club had received an official summons from the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) regarding Malik’s participation.

"Yes, we have received the official call-up from AFF, and Malik will be traveling to face Manchester United," Jonathan said in a statement from Surabaya, East Java, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, as quoted by antaranews.com.

With Malik's participation, two Indonesian players have been selected to join the ASEAN All-Stars team for their friendly match against Manchester United.

Previously, Kakang Rudianto, a defender from Persib Bandung, was also welcomed into the squad. His club expressed support for his participation, as the Liga 1 season has ended.

The ASEAN All-Stars will be coached by Kim Sang Sik, the head coach of the Vietnam national team.

Initially, Asnawi Mangkualam and Muhammad Ferarri were also called up but were unable to participate. Asnawi is currently training with the Indonesian national team for their 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, while Ferarri was reportedly not released by Persija Jakarta due to club commitments.

Jonathan said that Malik is considered worthy of being on the ASEAN All-Star coach's list after his consistent performance with Persebaya throughout the Liga 1 2024/2025 season.

As of week 30, the Surabaya-born player had made 24 appearances, contributing four goals and four assists. "His speed, creativity, and ability to create space make Malik one of the best wingers in the league this season," he stated.

Manchester United is scheduled to hold a pre-season tour in Southeast Asia as part of their preparations for the 2025/2026 season, following their 2-0 victory against Aston Villa in their final Premier League match.

The English club is confirmed to feature a number of star players, which will be a significant draw for football fans in the region.
