KBRN, Jakarta: The Father of World Pencak Silat, Eddie Nalapraya, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. He breathed his last at Pondok Indah Hospital at the age of 93, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the martial arts community.
The sad news of Eddie's passing was confirmed by the Special Staff of the Governor of Jakarta, Chico Hakim. "That's right (Eddie has passed away)," Chico stated in a short message on Tuesday, as reported by rri.co.id.
Eddie Nalapraya's body was to be laid to rest at the Pencak Silat Training Center in TMII at 1:00 p.m. His burial is scheduled to take place at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery (TMP) in South Jakarta, honoring his legacy in the world of martial arts.
Major General TNI (Ret.) Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya was known as the Father of World Pencak Silat. Born in Jakarta on June 6, 1931, he made significant contributions to the world of pencak silat, Indonesia's native martial art.
The late Eddie once held the position of Vice Governor of Jakarta, serving alongside Governor Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Raden Soeprapto, for the period of 1982-1987.
He played a pivotal role in advancing Pencak Silat on the global stage. His efforts led to the sport’s inclusion in international competitions, solidifying Indonesia’s cultural heritage in the world of martial arts.
Beyond his military and political contributions, Eddie was deeply committed to preserving Indonesian traditions, earning him the title "Father of World Pencak Silat." His legacy continues to inspire generations of martial artists and public servants alike. ***
