KBRN, Semarang: Ex-Dutch national team player Denny Landzaat has been confirmed as Indonesian national team assistant coach. What's interesting is that Landzaat has a close relationship with Indonesia, even having almost had a career in the Indonesian League when he was still a player.

Landzaat, who arrived with Indonesian national team coach Patrick Kluivert on Saturday, January 11 attracted attention. This was because he greeted the journalists who were waiting for him, and said thank you in Indonesian.

It was not a coincidence, because the man from Amsterdam was known to have Indonesian blood. Although born and raised in the Netherlands, the former AZ Alkmaar and Willem II player has Moluccan descent from his mother.

As quoted by rri.co.id besides having Indonesian blood, it turns out that the 48-year-old man almost played in the Indonesian League. This happened in 2013 when Landzaat's contract with Twente ended.

As quoted from Voetbal International, on Monday, Landzaat admitted that he wanted to stay in the Netherlands but was considering a move to Asia, as his resume was still interesting, and he was still capable of playing.

Landzaat then rumoured applied to an Indonesian club at that time, Sriwijaya FC, which competed in the ISL. The application was considered by the club, but the move never happened.

Having been without a club for six months, the holder of 38 Dutch national team caps returned to Willem II in 2014. He played nine games, before retiring and taking up coaching. ***
