Kluivert Prepares Two Plans for the National Team

KBRN, Jakarta: National team new coach Patrick Kluivert has prepared a four-year plan for the Garuda Squad which he said is to be executed in two stages.

“First, build and impact towards the World Cup. However, this only lasts for six months,” Kluivert told a press conference in Jakarta on Sunday, January 12, 2025, as reported by rri.co.id.

“After that, we build and implement to be able to appear at the 2026 World Cup," said the July 1, 1976-born football legend, adding that he will continue with this second plan for the national team's journey into the second phase of the Olympics and the next edition of the World Cup.

Kluivert said there are many things he wants to achieve with the Garuda squad. “Our team is also very committed to achieving our targets. So, we will try to make it happen,” he concluded.

Patrick Kluivert was officially announced by the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) as the head coach of the Indonesian national team on Wednesday (Jan 8). The former Ajax Ansterdam and Barcelona striker arrived in Jakarta on Saturday (Jan 11), accompanied by one of his assistants, Denny Landzaat.

There has been a big hope in the appointment of Kluivert as the head coach of the national team, considering his past achievements as a football player, combined with his successful transition into coaching.

As a player, the former Barcelona striker had an outstanding career, especially with Ajax and Barcelona. He was part of the Netherlands' Golden Generation in the 1990s. He scored the winning goal in the 1995 UEFA Champions League Final at just 18 years of age was joint top scorer at Euro 2000.

His presence as the new coach of the Indonesian national team is expected to make the Garuda squad more solid.

Apart from being officially introduced to the country's public, Kluivert already has a series of agendas including visiting various facilities that are usually used by the Indonesian national team. ***
