Prabowo Calls for TNI to Become a Modern Defense Force

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has called on the Indonesian Military (TNI) to continue adapting to technological developments and the changing nature of threats in order to build a modern defense force.

He made the statement while serving as the inspector of the ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of the TNI at the TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Monday, October 5, 2026.

According to the President, threats to national defense are no longer limited to physical attacks but can also emerge through technological developments and cyberspace. Therefore, the TNI must be able to adapt to these changing threats.

“Warfare is not necessarily physical anymore. Therefore, the TNI must continue to adapt. The TNI must be a professional, responsive, modern, innovative, and adaptive force. The TNI must master technology,” Prabowo said.

In line with President’s direction, Indonesia's Defense Minister, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin underscored the importance of strengthening the national defense industry to support the TNI’s operational needs.

“The Ministry of Defense also continues to strengthen the independence of the national defense industry to support the needs of the Indonesian Armed Forces in carrying out their duties,” Sjafrie conveyed.

The strengthening of the national defense industry is aimed at enhancing Indonesia’s self-reliance in meeting its defense needs while supporting the TNI in carrying out its duties.

During the 81st TNI anniversary commemoration, President Prabowo also inaugurated 204 new TNI units. The inauguration is part of efforts to strengthen the TNI’s organizational structure and support the implementation of defense duties across various regions of Indonesia.
