RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation has launched a digital mammography service at the Aviation Health Center (Balai Kesehatan Penerbangan/Balai Hatpen) in Jakarta to support early detection and prevention of breast cancer among aviation personnel and the general public. The service was officially launched by Director General of Civil Aviation Lukman F. Laisa on Friday, 2 October 2026, and was attended by officials from the Ministry of Transportation, aviation industry stakeholders, airline representatives, and related institutions.

The Aviation Health Center is responsible for ensuring the medical fitness of aviation personnel while also providing health services to the public. Laisa said the introduction of the mammography service reflected the government's commitment to strengthening preventive healthcare and early detection.

"Optimal health does not only depend on treatment, but also on prevention and early detection," Laisa said in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday, 4 October 2026.

He highlighted breast cancer as one of the major health challenges faced by women and emphasized the importance of early detection in improving recovery prospects. The digital mammography service is equipped with modern medical technology and supported by professional and experienced medical personnel to ensure accurate, safe, and comfortable examinations.

Laisa said the new facility was not merely an addition to the health center's physical infrastructure but also reflected its commitment to safety, health, and innovation in improving services.

Meanwhile, Head of the Aviation Health Center Capt. Renato Joelfian Joesaki said the digital mammography service was introduced as part of efforts to strengthen women's health services in Indonesia.

"The facility uses digital painless mammography, a digital mammography examination designed to provide greater comfort for patients," Joesaki said.

He added that the Aviation Health Center would continue developing its diagnostic services. The center plans to introduce a CT scan service in 2027 to further support the health and safety standards of aviation personnel and improve healthcare services for the public.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation noted that women account for around 25 percent of aviation personnel in Indonesia. According to the ministry, the availability of mammography services is expected to help ensure equal access to health screening for aviation personnel while supporting gender equality and a more inclusive working environment in the aviation sector.

Laisa encouraged aviation personnel and members of the public who require reliable health examinations to make optimal use of the new service. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation will continue strengthening cooperation with stakeholders to support the development of healthy and reliable aviation personnel and contribute to national aviation safety.
