RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is accelerating immigration services through digitalization, allowing passports to be processed within four working days. The policy is part of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections’ efforts to improve service efficiency and make it easier for people to obtain travel documents for international trips.

Public Communications Coordinator at the Directorate General of Immigration, Achmad Nur Saleh, said passport applications can now be submitted digitally through the M-Paspor application. Applicants only need to complete the required documents from home and visit an immigration office for an interview and photograph.

“People only need to complete their documents from home and come to the immigration office for an interview and photograph,” Achmad said in Jakarta on Wednesday September 30, 2026. He added that passports can be completed within four working days and are valid for up to 10 years.

The digitalization of passport services is also supported by the expansion of immigration services in various regions across Indonesia. The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections has established 18 new immigration offices to bring services closer to communities outside existing service centers.

In addition to expanding access, the government has fully implemented electronic passports, or e-passports, equipped with biometric security features. The system is also supported by population data validation through the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) to strengthen the security of travel documents.

Technology is also being applied to immigration checks for passengers traveling through Indonesia’s international airports. Autogates allow immigration documents to be checked automatically within seconds, reducing the need for passengers to wait in long queues for manual inspection.

At Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, 78 new autogate lanes have been installed, while I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has 90 and Juanda International Airport has 28. The expansion of these facilities is expected to speed up passenger processing while improving the efficiency of immigration checks at Indonesia’s international entry and exit points.

The transformation reflects Indonesia’s efforts to integrate digital technology into various stages of immigration services, from passport applications to departure checks. The system is intended to provide greater convenience for the public and international travelers while strengthening data security and reducing the risk of identity document fraud.
