RRI.CO.ID, Banyuwangi – State-owned inter-island port and ferry services company, ASDP Indonesia Ferry, has deployed 26 vessels to speed up the recovery of crossing services on the Ketapang–Gilimanuk route on Monday, September 28, 2026. This strategic measure is implemented by increasing ship trip frequencies and dynamically managing vehicle distribution to clear traffic queues.
ASDP President Director, Heru Widodo, stated that all operational steps are executed in coordination with regulators, law enforcement, ship operators, and relevant stakeholders. This cross-sector coordination is carried out while keeping crossing safety as the absolute top priority.
"We continue to optimize all available resources to accelerate service recovery. Vessel management, pier operations, and cargo distribution are executed dynamically according to each ship's capacity and characteristics, as well as field conditions. Our focus is to clear queues safely and measurably while maintaining smooth public mobility and logistics distribution," Heru said, as quoted from a written press release.
Beyond fleet optimization, ASDP and stakeholders are expediting the service cycle from docking, loading, and unloading to departure. Operational patterns are also evaluated regularly by considering field conditions, pier readiness, vehicle characteristics, vessel capacity, and maritime safety aspects.
In the field, handling challenges are heavily influenced by the volume and types of passing vehicles. On the Ketapang side, queues reached approximately 17 kilometers and were dominated by logistics vehicles of various sizes.
Some of these logistics vehicles even indicated diverse dimensions and loads, requiring extra adjustments during loading onto the vessels. This arrangement must strictly comply with vessel load limits to adhere to maritime safety standards.
ASDP continues to urge all service users, especially logistics drivers, to remain cooperative and follow instructions from officers in the field. All fleets and port facilities will be intensively optimized until crossing conditions return to normal and stable.
