RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Coinciding with World Tourism Day—observed annually on September 27, Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, launched the Indonesia Tourism Outlook 2026/2027. This document serves as a strategic reference for stakeholders to understand market dynamics, seize opportunities, anticipate challenges, and chart the course for tourism development leading up to 2027.

In a statement made in Jakarta on Monday, September 28, 2026, Minister Widiyanti noted that World Tourism Day is not merely an occasion for celebration but also an opportunity to reflect on the tourism sector's journey and prepare for the future amidst a constantly evolving global landscape.

"The global tourism landscape is highly dynamic. Factors ranging from geopolitical uncertainty and climate challenges to the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence bring both new challenges and opportunities," the Minister said.

Amidst these dynamics, Indonesia's tourism sector continues to demonstrate positive performance. From January to July 2026, foreign tourist arrivals reached 8.98 million, marking a 5.23 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year.

This achievement serves as a vital asset for strengthening the national tourism sector. However, Tourism Minister Widiyanti cautioned all stakeholders against complacency.

Sustained competitiveness must be accompanied by efforts to enhance the quality of tourism growth. Future tourism growth should ideally be reflected not only in increased visitor numbers but also in higher-quality travel experiences, greater economic value-added, and tangible benefits for community well-being.

“As we look toward the coming year, we must move toward stronger growth. In this regard, the Indonesia Tourism Outlook serves as a shared compass for navigating change, identifying opportunities, and anticipating risks,” she said.

According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Tuesday, September 29th 2026, the Indonesia Tourism Outlook 2026/2027 was developed by incorporating insights from tourism experts, gathered through surveys and interviews as well as input from business players and partners involved in the Ministry of Tourism’s flagship programs.

This approach aims to align policy perspectives with industry developments and needs. Consequently, the Indonesia Tourism Outlook 2026/2027 does more than just capture the current state of tourism; it outlines the opportunities, challenges, and priorities that must be addressed to shape the future development of Indonesia’s tourism sector.

The Indonesia Tourism Outlook 2026/2027 is also expected to strengthen the foundation for government policymaking, serve as a strategic reference for national tourism industry players, and foster cross-sector collaboration to build a tourism sector that is increasingly resilient, high-quality, inclusive, and sustainable.

Collaboration is increasingly vital, as the success of tourism development depends not only on the government but also on the active involvement of the industry, academia, communities, the general public, and various other stakeholders. A shared direction and a mutual understanding of evolving trends serve as the foundation for ensuring that tourism delivers greater value to Indonesia.
