Indonesian Air Force Reinforces Air Power Development for Modern Warfare

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) continues to strengthen its air power development to adapt to changes in the strategic environment, technological advancements, and the increasingly dynamic nature of modern warfare.

Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force, Air Marshal M. Tonny Harjono, made the statement during a staff meeting at the IG Dewanto Auditorium, Air Force Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

During the meeting, Tonny emphasized the importance of aligning the development of the Indonesian Air Force with operational requirements, including organizational structure, personnel, and unit capabilities. Officers were also urged to understand developments in air warfare, including the protection of strategic assets, the preparation of alternative locations to support operations, and unit readiness to respond to the evolving nature of modern warfare.

“The development of the Indonesian Air Force’s capabilities must continue to be aligned with operational requirements, including organizational structure, personnel, and unit capabilities. Officers must also understand developments in air warfare, including the protection of strategic assets, the preparation of alternative locations that can support operations, and unit readiness to respond to the evolving nature of modern warfare,” Tonny said.

The direction of air power development is also being strengthened through the refinement of the Swa Bhuwana Paksa Doctrine. Head of the Working Group for the Drafting of the Swa Bhuwana Paksa Doctrine, Vice Marshal Benny Arfan, said the drafting process has been underway since 2025 through a series of discussions and revisions.

“The refinement of the doctrine reaffirms the perspective of utilizing airspace and outer space, which is increasingly relevant to technological developments and the strategic environment,” Benny said.

In addition to refining the doctrine, the Indonesian Air Force is reorganizing several units, including strengthening the organization of the Air Force Special Forces Corps (Korpasgat). The measures are part of the Indonesian Air Force’s efforts to build an adaptive, modern, and professional air force capable of meeting future operational demands and challenges.
