DEN Holds the 1st Plenary Session of 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The President of Indonesia as the Chairman of the National Energy Council (DEN), Prabowo Subianto, led the National Energy Council (DEN) session at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta recently. The 1st DEN Plenary Session of 2026 discussed several strategic agendas to strengthen national energy security and independence amidst global geopolitical dynamics.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) as the Daily Chairman of DEN, Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that one of the main focus areas of the discussion was ensuring that national energy availability remains maintained, particularly in facing global geopolitical dynamics.

"The matters we discussed certainly address the unfolding geopolitics by ensuring that our national energy availability must be sufficient. I conveyed that during the meeting we also discussed and received direct directives from Mr. President that our fuel stock availability, our national reserve, stands at 18–20 days. So thankfully, it is clear," he stated.

According to him, aside from maintaining short-term energy security, the government is also continuously preparing strategic steps to strengthen long-term energy independence. One of these involves preparing the development of E50 as a continuation of the B50 Biodiesel program implementation.

The development of E50 is directed toward increasing the utilization of domestic energy resources to meet national fuel needs. The discussion noted that national diesel consumption currently ranges around 39 million kiloliters per year, while gasoline consumption reaches approximately 39–40 million kiloliters per year.

The government will also encourage exploration of oil basins and blocks as well as optimize producing wells through the application of technology. In this context, Bahlil conveyed the President's directive to ensure that the management of community-run wells is carried out professionally and in accordance with regulations.

"This includes Mr. President's instruction to monitor the 45,000 community wells, ensuring they must be managed professionally and subsequently preventing any violations or sales to other places," Bahlil stated.

The DEN Plenary Session also discussed the Oil and Gas Bill (RUU Migas). These discussions covered institutional strengthening within the governance of the oil and gas sector.

Aside from supply security issues, E50, increased oil and gas production, and the Oil and Gas Bill, the agenda for the DEN Plenary Session also encompassed several other strategic items, including the acceleration of 100 GWp solar power plant (PLTS) development, nuclear power plant development, and the establishment of the Nuclear Energy Program Implementing Organization (NEPIO). The session additionally addressed various cross-sectoral issues, including land utilization for energy infrastructure, industrial gas supply and price guarantees, and the sustainable development of geothermal energy in conservation areas.
