RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian Social Security Agency for Health (BPJS Kesehatan) continues to improve the quality of its National Health Insurance (JKN) services. As of July 2026, membership coverage has reached 284.3 million people, or 98.61 percent of Indonesia’s total population.
BPJS Kesehatan President Director Prihati Pujowaskito said that such extensive coverage requires improvements in service quality so participants not only register but also receive optimal health benefits.
“A service scale of this magnitude demands stronger accountability to ensure the public receives optimal health benefits,” Prihati said during the Seva Paramahita Award event in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He added that one way to improve service quality is by expanding and strengthening the network of healthcare facilities. BPJS Kesehatan currently collaborates with 23,758 Primary Healthcare Facilities (FKTP) and 3,229 Advanced Referral Healthcare Facilities (FKRTL).
BPJS Kesehatan also plans to increase the ratio of support staff under the “BPJS Siap Membantu” (BPJS SATU) program, which stations specialized BPJS officers at hospitals to provide information and handle complaints from JKN participants.
The increase in personnel is expected to help resolve service‑related complaints and ensure participants receive information and solutions when they require JKN services.
“This initiative is part of our effort to bring services closer to the public while ensuring participants receive information, assistance, and solutions when they need JKN services,” Prihati said.
In addition to improving services at healthcare facilities, BPJS Kesehatan is strengthening collaboration with Supplementary Health Insurance (AKT) providers to enhance financial protection for the public.
“The signing of a memorandum of understanding with 11 AKT providers today is a concrete first step toward improving coordination between the JKN and the AKT,” Prihati said.
He added that future improvements in service quality will be measured not only by the volume of medical procedures performed but also by the quality of health outcomes experienced by participants.
As a result, JKN services will shift their focus from procedure volume to a value‑based healthcare approach.
“Increases in service volume and options must go hand in hand with improvements in quality and the participant experience. Participant experience is shaped by the gap between expectations and reality. Hopefully, expectations will increasingly align with the actual experience,” Prihati said. ***
