Prabowo Brings Message of Self-Reliance and Stronger Global South Cooperation from BRICS Summit

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto brought a strategic message on the importance of national self-reliance and stronger cooperation among Global South countries after attending the 2026 BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, on September 12–13.

At the forum, Prabowo emphasized that national resilience must begin with a country's ability to meet its people's basic needs, including food and energy, while ensuring access to education and opportunities to improve their welfare.

“Strength always begins at home, together with our people, with our ability to feed our people, ensure the energy they need, educate our children, and give them the opportunity to prosper,” Prabowo said at the BRICS Summit on Sunday, September 13.

Prabowo also stressed the importance of self-reliance in international relations. He said Indonesia does not want to depend on or be dictated by any particular power and must have the resilience to determine its own national interests and development path.

In addition to national self-reliance, Prabowo called for stronger cooperation among Global South countries through BRICS. He said BRICS has significant collective strength, with its large population as well as substantial markets, resources, and economic capacities.

Prabowo said this collective strength must be translated into tangible benefits for the people through stronger food and energy security, infrastructure development, development financing, and expanded economic opportunities for developing countries.

“This is the kind of collective strength we need, strength that does not remain on paper, but is translated into opportunities for our people,” he explained.

After attending the BRICS Summit, Prabowo and his limited delegation arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Monday, September 14, 2026. Indonesia participated in the summit as a full BRICS member to strengthen cooperation and contribute to efforts to promote global resilience, sustainable development, and a stronger voice for Global South countries.
