Minister Urges RRI to Safeguard Information Integrity Amid Digital Disruption

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, has urged Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) to continue safeguarding information integrity amid rapid technological disruption and the dominance of global digital platforms. The statement was made by Nezar Patria at a discussion forum marking RRI's 81st anniversary, themed "RRI Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow," held at the RRI Auditorium in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, September 9 , 2026.

According to him, safeguarding information integrity is crucial for RRI to remain a trusted reference for the public amid the growing flood of misinformation and disinformation circulating in the digital space.

On the occasion, Nezar also praised the transformation steps RRI has taken, which he considers to be on the right track. He noted that the public can now access not only conventional frequency-based radio broadcasts, but also text and visual content through RRI's integrated multiplatform application.

However, Nezar cautioned that migrating to digital platforms requires a deep understanding of how global platform algorithms work. "RRI is an extraordinary expression of diversity. But if we get trapped in an echo chamber, that diversity could disappear," he said.

He explained that algorithms operate mathematically through micro-targeting techniques that can trigger echo chamber and filter bubble phenomena among users. "That's why the key is to keep safeguarding information integrity," he said.

Nezar added that a steadfast commitment to information integrity will position public broadcasting institutions like RRI as a "clearing house of information." He said this role is becoming increasingly urgent as waves of disinformation are more easily mass-produced using artificial intelligence (AI).

He emphasized that the digital public sphere is now overshadowed by instant content production that has the potential to mislead the public, a phenomenon that has even affected strategic sectors ranging from the economy and social affairs to national political dynamics, which are increasingly influenced by algorithmic currents.

The Vice Minister Nezar expressed optimism that in-depth and ethical journalistic work will always remain relevant and sought after by the wider public. "I still believe that beyond all this, content that is clear, that explains, and that provides direction will always be sought by people amid uncertainty," he said.
