RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia and Russia discussed strengthening military cooperation through enhanced joint exercises, special forces collaboration, personnel exchanges, and personnel education and training.
Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said they discussed these matters during his meeting with the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Gennadievich Tolchenov, at the Ministry of Defense in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
“Indonesia views Russia as a key partner in building defense cooperation grounded in the principles of mutual respect, mutual trust, shared interests, and respect for each nation’s sovereignty,” Minister Sjafrie said, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.
The meeting also covered plans for a working visit to Russia, enhanced dialogue, and joint inter‑service exercises.
Cooperation efforts include strengthening special forces capabilities and developing capacity in military medicine through personnel education and training.
Minister Sjafrie expressed optimism that the cooperation would progress well, given the long history of defense relations between Indonesia and Russia.
