Sade Village Recovery Project Focuses on Heritage Preservation

RRI.CO.ID, Lombok – The government is preparing to restore the Sade Traditional Village in Rambitan Village, Pujut Subdistrict, Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, after the area was struck by fire. The restoration aims to preserve the unique Sasak cultural identity and make the area more pleasant, comfortable, and safe from fire risks.

Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Fahri Hamzah stated that the government proposes reorganizing the buildings and infrastructure of the Sade Traditional Village by involving various ministries, universities, scientists, and experts.

According to Fahri, the fire that struck the village provides an opportunity to reorganize the area more comprehensively without losing the authentic character of the traditional Sasak settlement.

He explained that one challenge requiring attention is the traditional building materials used in Sade, which consist of wood and thatched roofs. While these materials are part of the traditional village's architectural uniqueness, they also make the buildings more susceptible to catching fire when an ignition source is present.

"Because of their natural composition, which includes wood and thatched roofs, we must ensure that they do not easily catch fire," he said.

The restoration will also focus on electrical installations. He stated that the government will encourage installing safer electrical systems to reduce fire risks in the area.

"Electrical installations will be set up as safely as possible, and PLN will be asked to create special designs for cultural villages," he said.

Fahri noted that restoring the Sade Traditional Village aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's directives for an Indonesia that is pleasant, safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful. The reorganization aims to repair and ensure the area's long-term resilience. The government will propose an inter-ministerial meeting to formulate a restoration design, involving universities, scientists, and experts to ensure the design preserves cultural values and meets safety and comfort requirements.

"The goal is for the development to yield commercial, educational, and knowledge-related benefits for tourists and the local community," Fahri said.

The Sade Traditional Village holds significant value for the community and the nation, serving as a venue to showcase the unique Sasak culture of Lombok Island. Consequently, the government aims to ensure that the area continues to function as a cultural tourism destination and a learning space for the public.

Various parties have begun providing assistance to support the area's recovery. This includes funding for the construction of a museum, a mosque, and other facilities. The government hopes that restoration based on improved designs will raise Sade's profile at the national and international levels.

Fahri considers safety measures crucial to maintaining Sade's cultural tourism appeal. Resilient disaster risk infrastructure is expected to protect the community and ensure the village's sustainability.
