President Prabowo Meets Military, Police Chiefs Over Forest Fires

RRI.CO.ID, Cibinong – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, invited the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the Indonesian Police (Polri) to discuss developments in the national situation, as well as efforts to tackle forest and land fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan. This is evident in a meeting between Prabowo, Commander of the TNI, General Agus Subiyanto, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo at the president’s residence in Bogor Regency, West Java, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, said in a written statement that the President received a report on developments on the ground. This included measures that had been taken to address and control forest and land fires.

"The meeting discussed developments in the national situation as well as the handling of forest and land fires in several areas of Sumatra and Kalimantan," he said, as quoted from the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat website.

Teddy said the government is continuing to strengthen coordination among relevant agencies to ensure that forest and land fires can be addressed swiftly and in an integrated manner. The measures are also aimed at preventing the spread of fires in affected areas.

"The government continues to strengthen coordination to ensure that the response is swift and integrated, while also anticipating the spread of fire hotspots," he said.

According to data from the country's Ministry of Forestry, as of Sunday, August 30, 2026, a total of 946 hotspots had been detected nationwide. The figure was down by 629 hotspots from the previous day.

West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan recorded the highest numbers of hotspots, with 455 and 308, respectively. Other hotspots were detected in South Sumatra (36), South Kalimantan (18), and Jambi (1).
