House Finalizes 16 Bills, Including Domestic Worker Protection Law

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers (UU PRT) is one of 16 bills finalized by the House of Representatives (DPR) into law during the 2025–2026 legislative session.

Speaker of the House, Puan Maharani, said the completion of these bills reflects the House’s legislative achievements over the past year. She noted that the lawmaking process is becoming more open, participatory, and responsive to public needs.

“Throughout the 2025–2026 legislative session, the House of Representatives finalized 16 bills into law,” Puan said in her speech at the special plenary session marking the House’s 81st anniversary at the parliament building in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The Domestic Worker Protection Law drew significant public attention due to the lengthy deliberations preceding its enactment. It is officially recorded as Law No. 2/2026 concerning the Protection of Domestic Workers.

In addition to the Domestic Worker Protection Law, the House passed several other laws during the 2025–2026 session. These include Law No. 14/2025 on the Organization of Hajj and Umrah Pilgrimages; Law No. 15/2025 on Accountability for the Implementation of the 2024 State Budget (APBN); and Law No. 16/2025 on State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN).

The House also finalized Law No. 17/2025 on the 2026 State Budget; Law No. 18/2025 on Tourism; Law No. 19/2025 on the Ratification of the Extradition Treaty between Indonesia and the Russian Federation; Law No. 20/2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP); and Law No. 21/2025 on airspace management.

Three other approved bills include the bill on the Indonesian International Financial Center; the bill on the ratification of the defense cooperation agreement between Indonesia and Turkey; and the bill on the ratification of the memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia.

Puan said the House continues to strengthen the legislative process to produce laws that are well‑planned, transparent, participatory, and responsive to public needs.

“Public participation is being expanded through hearings, public hearings, public consultations, and the submission of public input through digital channels,” she said.

She also noted that efforts are being made to ensure the constitutionality of legal products by acting upon Constitutional Court rulings during the drafting and deliberation of various bills.

In addition to its legislative function, the DPR presented its achievements in carrying out its oversight function throughout the 2025–2026 parliamentary session. The DPR received 9,205 public complaints, including 7,055 submitted by mail, 2,011 via the website, and 139 through internal DPR bodies.

To exercise its oversight function, the DPR established 42 working committees and held 736 meetings.

“All these public inputs have been forwarded to the relevant House bodies for follow‑up through recommendations to the government,” Puan said. ***
