More Than 4,000 Displaced Residents from NTT Earthquake Return Home

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Recovery efforts following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) are beginning to show progress. As of August 30, 2026, more than 4,000 displaced residents had returned to their homes in several affected areas.

Acting Head of the National Disaster Management Agency Center for Disaster Data, Information, and Communication, Berton SP Panjaitan, said the number of displaced residents currently stood at 188,161. The figure represents a decrease of 4,142 people, mainly from Nagekeo, East Manggarai, and Ngada regencies.

“The latest information we received puts the number of displaced residents at 188,161, a decrease of 4,142 people,” Berton said during a press conference in Jakarta on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

The BNPB continues to facilitate residents returning home while ensuring that their necessary needs are met. The government is also monitoring conditions in affected areas to support the return of displaced residents and the broader recovery process.

“We will continue to facilitate people and displaced residents who return to their homes,” he said.

In addition to the return of displaced residents, economic activities have begun to resume in several areas. The BNPB reported that trading activities had resumed in markets in Nagekeo Regency, including the sale of agricultural products and local handicrafts.

The government is also preparing for the resumption of educational activities based on the condition of school buildings. Schools that remain safe and usable can resume face-to-face classes, while damaged schools may implement distance learning.
