Govt Targets New Labor Bill for Completion in October 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The government aims to finalize the new Labor Bill by October 2026. The drafting of this legislation is intended to address changes in the world of work while strengthening the protection and welfare of workers.

Vice Minister of Manpower, Afriansyah Noor, stated that finalizing the Labor Bill is a crucial step in preparing regulations that are relevant to developments in the world of work. According to him, the drafting process has a tight schedule, requiring contributions and support from various stakeholders.

“We have a very tight and challenging timeline, with the target to finalize this bill by next October. This means we’re moving very quickly,” Afriansyah said while opening the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the Confederation of All Indonesian Labor Unions (KSBSI) in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

He stated that the government is providing a platform for labor unions to voice their aspirations and give input during the drafting process of the bill. These aspirations are crucial for enriching the substance of the regulations so that they can address the needs of workers while also accommodating developments in the business world.

“The challenges of today’s workforce are becoming increasingly complex. Technological advancements, automation, changes in global supply chains, the green economy, and the dynamics of international regulations require us to develop comprehensive national regulations,” he said.

He added that a number of labor issues are being addressed in discussions about the bill. Four of these issues include the protection and welfare of outsourced workers, guarantees for a living wage, a fair wage structure, and assurances of equal labor protection.

“The enactment of this new Labor Law is expected to serve as a robust legal framework for the future, safeguarding workers’ rights across generations,” he said.

Therefore, Afriansyah urged the KSBSI National Congress to generate constructive proposals and substantive recommendations as input for the drafting process of the Labor Bill.

According to him, drafting labor regulations requires synergy between the government, labor unions, the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), and the business community so that the resulting regulations can strengthen worker protection while maintaining the sustainability of the business sector.
