Govt Provides Seedlings for Lampung's Coffee, Cocoa Lands

RRI.CO.ID, Central Lampung – The Ministry of Agriculture is strengthening coffee and cocoa development in Lampung by providing 2.6 million seedlings to support cultivation on about 18,000 hectares.

The program is part of the government’s efforts to expand plantation commodities and improve productivity and farmer welfare.

“The target for the plantation assistance program is 30,000 hectares, 18,000 of which are allocated for coffee and cocoa. The value for Lampung is approximately IDR 350 billion. If all goes well, this will greatly benefit the farmers,” said Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman while inspecting a coffee and cocoa nursery in Bangun Rejo Village, Central Lampung Regency, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

He emphasized that the government provides this support to farmers free of charge, covering seedlings, land preparation, and planting costs.

“Once again, it is all free: free seedlings, free planting costs, and free land preparation costs. It is free for Indonesian farmers. This comes from the President of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said.

CV Hikmah Tani Director Agus Setiawan said his company has been entrusted with supplying 2.6 million coffee and cocoa seedlings for the 2026 plantation development program.

“Alhamdulillah, for 2026, CV Hikmah Tani has been entrusted to produce 600,000 Robusta coffee seedlings, 200,000 rooted coffee cuttings, and 1,800,000 grafted cocoa seedlings,” Agus said.

He explained that the 600,000 Robusta coffee seedlings have been allocated to Pesisir Barat and Tanggamus Regencies, while 200,000 rooted coffee cuttings are being distributed to Way Kanan Regency.

Meanwhile, 1.8 million grafted cocoa seedlings will be distributed to West Lampung, Central Lampung, and South Lampung Regencies. The nursery operations also create jobs for the local community.

“This work empowers the local community. I have a regular workforce of 70 people, but during the polybag‑filling stage, that number can reach 150 to 200,” he said.

Agus hopes the plantation rejuvenation and expansion program will continue so more farmers can benefit.

Tulang Bawang Regent Qudrotul Ikhwan welcomed the development of coffee and cocoa in Lampung, noting that both commodities have strong economic potential and export prospects.

“We view this nursery and the development of coffee and cocoa very positively. We hope these perennial crops will be cultivated, as they are essential for meeting national export demands,” Qudrotul said.

He added that the prospective farmers and prospective locations (CPCL) mechanism can help establish new plantation hubs in the region. The 2.6 million seedlings provided are expected to strengthen Lampung’s plantation sector upstream.

The program also aims to increase production, create jobs, and expand markets for plantation commodities. (Misni Parjiati)
