Indonesia Boosts Cooperation with ILO to Address Changes in Work Sector

RRI.CO.ID, Bangkok - The Ministry of Manpower has reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO) in responding to changes in the world of work while enhancing worker protection.

Director General of Industrial Relations Development and Workers’ Social Security at the Ministry of Manpower, Indah Anggoro Putri, said the world of work is changing rapidly amid advances in digital technology, demographic shifts, and global economic dynamics. These developments are directly affecting the labor market landscape and require adaptive labor policies, as well as collaboration among institutions and countries.

“On behalf of the Government of Indonesia, allow me to express our appreciation to the ILO for its continued support, particularly through various initiatives to strengthen the national labor development agenda,” Indah said during the Open Session with ILO in Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

She said Indonesia’s cooperation with the ILO has been carried out through various human resource capacity-building programs, including for public employment service officials. From 2022 to 2026, these programs included training on Public Employment Services (PES) and Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB), as well as support for strategic labor agendas at the ASEAN regional level.

“Going forward, Indonesia welcomes the expansion of cooperation through knowledge sharing and intensive policy dialogue to address the various challenges and opportunities in the era of the future of work,” she explained.

One of Indonesia’s priorities is strengthening the implementation of ILO Convention No. 188 on Work in Fishing, which Indonesia has ratified. According to Indah, strengthening worker protection in the fisheries sector should cover governance, occupational safety and health standards, labor inspection, the fulfillment of fundamental rights, and social security for fishing vessel crew members.

At the regional level, Indonesia also emphasized the importance of flexible and responsive ASEAN-ILO cooperation that addresses the needs of member states. Programs developed through the partnership are expected to be results-oriented and capable of addressing the diverse labor needs of each country.
