RRI.CO.ID, Cibinong - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, reviewed follow-up measures on government instructions on handling forest and land fires in Kalimantan Island, as well as post-earthquake recovery efforts in Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara. The evaluation took place during a meeting with several ministers, as well as the commander and the chiefs of Staff at the Indonesian Military (TNI) at the president’s residence in Bogor Regency, West Java, on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy, Indra Wijaya, said Prabowo summoned ministers and officials throughout Sunday afternoon and evening to discuss several strategic issues. The meeting with TNI leadership was the final session in the series of meetings.

“In the final session with the TNI Commander and the Chiefs of Staff of the armed forces, the President discussed follow-up measures on his instructions regarding the support that had been ordered for distribution to the affected areas in Kalimantan and East Nusa Tenggara, particularly support delivered by air,” Teddy said in a written statement, as quoted from Indonesia's Presidential Secretariat on Sunday.

To strengthen efforts to tackle forest and land fires in Kalimantan, the government has added 17 water-bombing aircraft. The reinforcement of the aerial fleet is part of efforts to accelerate firefighting operations in affected areas.

In addition, 1,500 additional personnel, along with individual equipment, have also arrived to strengthen firefighting efforts in Kalimantan. The government has also sent 200 pumps and pipes as part of efforts to extinguish underground fires in peatland areas.

At the same meeting, the President also discussed continuing reconstruction and assistance for communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara. The secretariat said the government continues to ensure that the ordered assistance reaches affected areas and supports the recovery process for local communities.

“The President also expressed appreciation for the swift response of military and police personnel across various sectors and regions throughout Indonesia,” he said.
