Govt Boosts Company Productivity to Strengthen Indonesia’s Competitiveness

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Manpower is working to improve company productivity as part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s competitiveness amid technological changes and shifts in the global labor market. The initiative will be carried out through a productivity improvement program for 20 companies in the manufacturing, healthcare, and hospitality sectors from September to November 2026.

The program involves at least 25 trained productivity specialists, 20 instructors, and 20 participants in the national apprenticeship program. Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, said improving company productivity requires more than enhancing workers’ skills. It must also be accompanied by comprehensive improvements in management and work processes.

“Workers’ competencies must be connected to company productivity. When competencies improve, work processes become more efficient, technology is utilized optimally, and a culture of continuous improvement develops, the competitiveness of companies and the national economy will also increase,” Yassierli said on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

The program adopts a company-based productivity improvement approach tailored to the needs of each company. The process includes baseline measurement and productivity assessments, identification of root causes, development of productivity improvement plans, implementation of improvements, as well as monitoring and evaluation of their impact.

Yassierli said the involvement of national apprenticeship participants is part of workplace-based learning. “From the outset, apprentices need to understand that working is not merely about completing tasks. They also need to learn how work can be done better, more efficiently, with higher quality, and with greater added value,” he said.

Through the pilot program, the Ministry of Manpower expects to develop a systematic, measurable, and integrated model for improving company productivity that can be implemented on a broader scale. The initiative is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesian workers and companies while supporting the achievement of Indonesia’s Golden Generation 2045 goals.
