Strengthening Indonesia’s Intellectual Property Ecosystem Through KI‑Match

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Ministry of Law is strengthening Indonesia’s intellectual property (IP) ecosystem through the development of the KI‑Match digital platform. Designed to connect university innovations with the needs of businesses, industries, and MSMEs, the platform is expected to become a key resource for fostering innovation and collaboration.

The Jakarta Regional Office of the Ministry of Law introduced the initiative during a talk show titled Building an Economic Ecosystem Through the Strengthening of Legal Services on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Deputy Minister of Law, Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, said that developing the IP ecosystem requires cross‑sector collaboration. He noted that integrated data can serve as a foundation for aligning various interests in building an IP‑based economy.

“We are currently building integrated data to facilitate collaboration between ministries. Economic development is certainly linked to various ministries,” he said.

The collaboration involves ministries responsible for MSMEs, the creative economy, trade, and higher education. Such connectivity is necessary to ensure that intellectual property outcomes do not stop at legal protection alone.

Edward emphasized that engagement between universities, the government, the business sector, and stakeholders is crucial. This synergy is expected to expand the use of innovations into more tangible economic activities.

“Developing the IP ecosystem requires collaboration among universities, the government, the business sector, and other stakeholders. That is why activities like this are important,” he said.

Through KI‑Match, innovations from university IP centers will be displayed on a single dashboard. Business players, industry representatives, and MSMEs can access this information to explore collaboration opportunities.

IP centers do more than facilitate the registration and protection of creations. They also align innovations with market needs to generate greater economic value.

To expand this collaborative space, the Jakarta Regional Office of the Ministry of Law initiated the Jakarta IP Business Forum. The forum is designed as a platform for the IP community to connect with business leaders, industry representatives, and MSMEs.

The forum provides room to discuss both substantive and technical aspects of intellectual property. It is also intended to facilitate business matching between innovators and potential partners.

Edward said that digital technology can help accelerate IP services, although its effectiveness and efficiency must be measured against clear parameters.

“Bureaucratic layers can be cut, making the process faster. Digital platforms also bring transparency and accountability to service delivery,” he said.

He added that transparency and accountability are essential elements of good governance. Digitalization makes service processes more open and enables public oversight.

“Information technology is a key indicator of good governance. With digital systems, anyone can monitor the process because it has become more transparent,” he stated.

Through KI‑Match and the Jakarta IP Business Forum, the intellectual property ecosystem is expected to become increasingly aligned with economic needs. As a result, intellectual property will not only be protected but also developed into valuable economic assets. (Misni Parjiati)
