RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government will hold the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia with a more participatory and inclusive concept. Thru a series of activities throughout August, the government aims to present a celebration that widely involves the community while also strengthening the spirit of unity and mutual cooperation.
The Head of the Indonesian Government Communication Agency, Muhammad Qodari, stated that the theme "Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia" serves as the foundation for the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's independence. According to him, this theme reflects the government's commitment to ensuring that the results of development can be felt equally by all members of society.
"We want to ensure that the fruits of every drop of sweat from development are not only enjoyed by a handful of people but can be felt genuinely, more widely, and evenly by every community throughout the archipelago. The government really wants this year's independence commemoration to feel different and closer to the hearts of the people," Qodari said in a press statement in Jakarta, Monday, August 3, 2026.
The series of Independence Month events has begun with the National Prayer and Zikir at the National Monument on August 1. Next, the government will hold several state agendas, including the awarding of medals and honors, the President's state address before the Indonesian Parliament on August 14, and a national pilgrimage leading up to Independence Day.
The peak of the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's independence will take place on August 17 thru the Proclamation Moment Commemoration Ceremony and the Pusaka Flag Lowering Ceremony, led by President Prabowo Subianto. The government also invited around 8,100 participants to attend the ceremony.
In addition to the state agenda, the government will hold a People's Party in the area of the National Monument and Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, Jakarta. Various activities such as art performances, traditional competitions, entertainment, and free food distribution will be held as part of the celebration with the community.
"We ensure that this independence celebration truly comes alive and belongs to all Indonesian people without exception," he said.
The series of Independence Month events will be concluded with the Merdeka Run, which the public can participate in for free. The government hopes that all these activities will serve as a space for public participation while also strengthening the spirit of unity, mutual cooperation, and nationalism in the commemoration of Indonesia's 81st independence anniversary.
