RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid has warned the public not to be deceived by new patterns of radicalization emerging in the digital space.

She explained that recruitment no longer begins with incitement to hatred or violence. Instead, radical groups now employ seemingly benign approaches, such as offering assistance and hope. Once trust is established, potential victims are gradually led toward extremist ideology.

Radical groups are increasingly using subtle and personal methods to influence vulnerable individuals, particularly children.

“I must emphasize that violence doesn’t start with a single malicious word; it begins with a helping hand and personal assistance, followed by promises of prosperity. Once trust has been established, individuals are led towards extreme ideologies,” Minister Meutya said in her official statement in Jakarta on Friday, July 31, 2026.

She further noted that technological developments make radicalization harder to detect. Narratives combined with digital algorithms can shape information spaces according to user preferences, resulting in individuals receiving content that strongly aligns with their beliefs, regardless of factual accuracy.

“When narratives meet algorithms, the illusion is created that what emerges is the truth. At that point, facts begin to lose ground to emotions and beliefs. This is the major challenge we face in the post‑truth era,” she added. (Misni Parjiati)
