RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) has tightened its import supervision system in collaboration with the Quarantine Agency (Barantin) through a strategic cooperation agreement signed at the BPJPH office on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

The cooperation aims to prevent smuggling of illegal commodities using forged documents. Officers previously uncovered an import of animal feed containing porcine -- anything related to or derived from pigs -- without official notification.

BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan confirmed the incident, noting that all evidence was destroyed after laboratory examinations. “The documents stated the goods did not contain porcine, but they actually did,” he said.

Quarantine Agency Head Abdul Kadir Karding highlighted the importance of the agreement, which has been drafted since May. “Today marks a crucial moment for public protection, not only in terms of product health but also halal status,” he said.

He outlined four strategic areas of cooperation, including integration of import‑export data systems and strengthening human resource capacity. “We want to protect the public in two ways: ensuring health and halal status, and ensuring that products, including exports and imports, are processed quickly even with inspections,” Karding added.

Haikal committed to deploying technical personnel to oversee commodity sample inspections. BPJPH staff will be stationed at quarantine service offices to expedite laboratory testing. “Through this agreement, two officers will simultaneously monitor goods, take samples, and bring them to the lab,” he said.

The additional monitoring procedures are designed to ensure that international trade flows remain smooth. Businesses are required to maintain accurate inspection documents to safeguard the reputation of the national trade system. (Misni Parjiati)
