RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is approaching the annual peak period of the dry season. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) expects the driest conditions occurring between July and September this year.

In an interview with RRI Voice of Indonesia on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the Deputy for Climatology, Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan, explained rainfall becomes minimal during those months. July, August, and September usually record the lowest rainfall across Indonesian regions annually.

"The peak of the dry season usually occurs between July and September," he said. Ardhasena further explained that Indonesia is now approaching that seasonal peak very soon indeed.

BMKG expects drought conditions already affecting many regions throughout the country this year. Water levels in reservoirs, rivers, and groundwater tables have already decreased significantly nationwide.

The agency also warned about substantial daytime temperature swings during peak conditions. Temperatures may become intensely hot between noon and two o'clock each afternoon.

Morning temperatures can drop sharply because dry Australian air masses continue affecting Indonesia. The contrasting temperatures create uncomfortable conditions between mornings and daytime periods across regions.

BMKG warned the dry season could affect water, energy, agriculture, and forestry sectors. Some areas may soon face conditions suitable for forest and land fires.
