RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government will soon begin the groundbreaking phase for the construction of a 100-gigawatt solar power plant. Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, announced this ambitious plan after attending a restricted meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

“We also discussed the implementation of the 100-gigawatt solar power plant, for which, God willing, the groundbreaking event will take place in the near future,” Bahlil stated.

He added that President Prabowo is scheduled to lead the groundbreaking event for this solar energy project directly. He explained, “So, this solar power plant project is already underway, and the first phase has been approved for implementation. The President himself is scheduled to inaugurate it officially.”

As a first step, the government will prioritize constructing several gigawatts in regions where the distribution grid is already in place. This statement aligns with the explanation provided by Indonesian Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

President Prabowo also called for accelerating this project through collaboration with private-sector entities that master solar power and battery technologies. Rosan noted an investment of billions of US dollars for the domestic production of solar power plant components.

“The investment has already been made, and it will be completed by the end of this year. This will also help us use domestic production for this solar power plant project,” he said.

Previously, the President had announced plans to expand the nation’s electricity generation capacity to 100 gigawatts during the inauguration of VKTR Sakti Industry’s electric commercial vehicle assembly plant in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday, April 9, 2026. This program is being implemented alongside the gradual phase-out of diesel-powered plants.
