RRI.CO.ID, Banten - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, emphasized that innovation, integrity, and a lifelong learning spirit are the main foundations in shaping an Indonesian generation capable of meeting global challenges. According to him, technological advancements, including artificial intelligence (AI), will not replace humans who possess character, ethics, and critical thinking skills.
Yusril invited the prospective graduates to view graduation as the beginning of a lifelong learning process, not the end of their academic journey.
"I never stop learning. A bachelor's degree is not a sign that the learning process is over, but rather capital to continue developing oneself in facing the changes of the times," Yusril said while delivering the keynote speech at the Open University Graduation Seminar in South Tangerang, Banten, on Monday, July 27, 2026.
He also shared his educational experience, starting from attending school in the afternoon until evening in Belitung before finally being accepted into the Faculty of Law at the University of Indonesia. According to him, that experience proves that limitations are not an excuse to stop pursuing education and achieving one's dreams.
In addition, the Coordinating Minister affirmed the importance of openness to various sources of knowledge. He said that Indonesian intellectuals must be able to understand Western, Eastern, and Islamic thot without losing their identity as Indonesians, while also being able to adapt to the ever-changing technological developments.
"A developed nation is not a nation without problems, but a nation with many educated people who are willing to think about and solve the problems it faces," he said.
According to him, higher education must produce graduates who are not only adaptive to technological developments, but also possess integrity and understand the dynamics of social, legal, economic, and global geopolitical issues. He added that trust is a capital that must be maintained because it can collapse due to just one dishonest action.
