RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) urged the acceleration of the mining industry's transformation thru the strengthening of research collaboration, technological innovation, and the downstreaming of research-based products. This step is taken to increase the added value of mineral resources while also supporting more sustainable mining practices.

The head of BRIN, Arif Satria, stated that BRIN is committed to delivering research and innovation that meet industry needs. According to him, the involvement of the business world is key to ensuring that research-derived technology can be utilized and developed optimally.

"BRIN is committed to producing research and innovation that are relevant to the needs of the industry. Therefore, we hope that the industrial world can utilize, adopt, and commercialize the technologies resulting from BRIN's research, thereby adding value to the growth of the national industry," Arif said in a written statement, Monday, July 27, 2026.

The commitment was realized thru the Business Gathering on Technology Innovation (BGTI) 5, which focuses on the mining sector. This event raised several strategic agendas, ranging from the acceleration of mining product downstreaming, decarbonization of the mining sector, implementation of sustainable mining practices, to the utilization of Processing Residues (SHP) and Processing and Refining Residues (SHPP) into value-added products.

BRIN also opens up research collaboration opportunities with the industry thru various schemes, such as research collaboration, co-development, product innovation testing, and technology licensing. Additionally, these activities bring together industry players with research and innovation funding opportunities from various sources.

BGTI 5 is part of the support for the national downstream and industrialization program to increase added value domestically. Thru the forum, BRIN brings together researchers, the government, and industry players to build a stronger innovation ecosystem.

The series of BGTI 5 activities includes discussion sessions on research and innovation collaboration, as well as business meetings divided into several themes, namely the downstreaming of mining products, decarbonization of the mining industry, environmentally friendly mining practices, and increasing the added value of SHP and SHPP.

Arif Satria hopes that the forum can strengthen the synergy between research and industry so that national innovations can be implemented in a tangible way and enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia's mining sector.

"BGTI 5 is expected to be a momentum to strengthen the synergy between research and industry in promoting the application and competitiveness of national innovation, while also opening up new measurable cooperation opportunities for the acceleration of research and innovation downstreaming in the mining sector," he explained.
